Journi

Privacy Policy

Last updated July 21, 2026

Journi is a group-trip planning app operated by Novara. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We've kept it in plain language on purpose.

Who Journi is for

Journi is built for families and friend groups planning trips together — often including people under 18, set up and overseen by a parent or the person organizing the trip. Journi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from a child under 13 except where a parent or guardian has added them to a trip. If you believe a child under 13 has an account without that involvement, email us and we will remove it.

What we collect

  • Account: your email and password (passwords are stored securely hashed — we never see them in plain text).
  • Profile: the name, emoji, and role (friend/parent) you choose.
  • Trip details you add: itinerary, stays, flights, budget, votes, chat messages, and any optional travel info you enter — such as a phone number, emergency contact, passport expiry month, or dietary needs.
  • Photos: pictures you upload to your scrapbook, and — only if you choose to add it — the place and time a photo was taken.
  • Location: only when you tap something like “use my spot” or “near me,” to tag a memory or find nearby places. Journi never tracks your location in the background.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, the push subscription your device provides so we can send trip reminders.
  • Basic usage analytics: which features are used, in aggregate, so we can improve the app.

How we use it

To run your trip and keep it in sync for everyone in your group, to send the notifications you turn on, to answer your questions through Coco (our AI helper), and to make Journi better. That's it — we do not sell your information, and we do not show you ads.

Coco, our AI helper

When you chat with Coco, your message and relevant trip details are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a reply. Under their API terms, this content is not used to train their models. Coco's answers are generated by AI and can be imperfect — double-check anything important like prices, bookings, or safety details.

Who we share it with

Your trip content is visible only to the members of your trip. We share data with the service providers that run Journi, and only so the app can work:

  • Supabase — secure database and photo storage
  • Vercel — app hosting
  • Anthropic — powers Coco
  • PostHog — privacy-friendly, aggregate usage analytics
  • Web push services (Apple / Google / Mozilla) — deliver the notifications you opt into

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information for as long as you use Journi. You can edit or delete your photos and profile anytime inside the app. To delete your account and everything associated with it, email support@novarahq.io from the email on your account, and we'll remove it promptly.

How we protect it

Passwords are hashed, connections use HTTPS, and access to each trip's data is restricted so only its members can see it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.

Your choices

Turn notifications on or off anytime, edit or remove your photos and profile details, and request full deletion whenever you like. If you have a privacy question or a request, just email us.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top and, for anything significant, let you know in the app.
